Masaniello was an Italian fisherman who became leader of the revolt against the rule of Habsburg Spain in Naples in 1647. He is depicted here by Professor Augusto Passaglia (Italian, 1838–1918) as a young fisher boy, his left hand resting on some fish. Several versions of this statue exist, varying in size.
