At Al Jisr al-Abiad, the Madrasa Maridaniye is originally Ayyubid from 1213 and was much simpler then we see it now. It was founded by a princess of the house of the lords of Mardin, now in Turkey, Ikhshawra Khatun, wife of the Ayyubid ruler al-Muazzam Issa, she was probably a niece of Nur al-Din. She was never buried here, as was her intention for founding it, as she died in Mecca.
