The building was erected in 1926 for the Dime Savings Bank and Trust Company. The bank failed in 1933 during the Great Depression. It was subsequently reopened in February 1937 by Robert "Rube" Frank in the former bank main lobby as the "Marble Bar", apparently after the use of marble in the building. It was a popular eating and drinking place for nearly 20 years. Among the Marble Bar's early managers was Jack Archinal, who as a G.I. just after World War II was to have his 15 minutes of fame when he gave his blood to keep alive Japanese warlord Tojo after he tried to commit suicide.

Frank sold the restaurant to new owners in April 1956 when he bought Tallman's Restaurant at 9th and Hamilton Street. The new owners operated the restaurant until February, 1963 when the owners moved the bushiness to 614 Hamilton and renamed it the "Marbelet Restaurant". It was not successful and it closed in May 1963.

The former Marble Bar reopened briefly as a sandwich shop and then as the "Super Pub" in April 1963. It was damaged in February 1969 after a general alarm fire next door at the Leon Furniture and Lafayette Electronics company buildings destroyed those properties, and it closed.
