Perspective projections are a map projection that imitate the appearance of the Earth when viewed from space, or the image cast by a point light source shining through a translucent globe. Types of perspective projections include:
- near-side perspective projections, when the side of the Earth closer to the viewpoint is visible (like in a photograph)
- far-side perspective projections, when the side of the Earth farther from the viewpoint is visible
- the orthographic projection, the limit of the general perspective projection when the viewing distance approaches infinity.
- the stereographic projection, the special far-side perspective projection where the viewing distance is zero.
