The Asia map of the Atlas sive Cosmographicae was based on the world maps made by Gerhard Mercator himself. It was however created after Gerardus Mercator's death, in order to place it in his Atlas to be published. The actual cartographer to make it was his grandson (Gerhard Mercator II, the son of Arnold Mercator) who signed the work as G. M. Iunioris, which is the reason that Gerardus Mercator (senior) is often credited with this map design.
