The Malcolm Gross Rose Gardens at 2750 Parkway Boulevard features a beautiful array of rose and other flower varieties, in peak bloom typically in June - July. The Rose Garden is a popular park for walking, bicycling, and photography opportunities.

The garden was conceived in 1929 by Allentown Mayor Malcom Gross. After some study Mayor Gross secured the services of Jacoby and Everett, landscape architects who assigned Charles Yost to design the project. The site for the Rose Garden was selected on the tract of 37 acres obtained by the City of Allentown through condemnation proceedings and an additional 37 acres running from 29th Street to Dorneyville Road. At the same time of the construction of the Rose Garden, Parkway Boulevard was constructed, connecting Linden Street at Ott Street out to Cedar Crest Boulevard.

The Allentown Rose Society was formed in September 1930, and money for the flowers was obtained though donations from several civic organizations, each one of them obligated itself to donating one of the eight beds of roses in the garden. The Rose Garden was opened to the public on Sunday, May 31st, 1931.

Originally at the center of the Rose Garden was an old tree left standing when the tract was cleared in 1930 and the garden itself covers more than two acres, centering at about 28th Street in what became Cedar Creek Park. The garden contains a colorful arrangement of roses as well as flowers for terraces and trellises along with a lagoon that was filled with lily ponds and carp.

In July 1977, the facility was renamed the Malcom Gross Rose Garden to honor Allentown's former mayor who was the driving force behind its creation. Since it's opening, many couples chose to host their wedding in the Rose Garden, or take engagement or prom pictures.

The Allentown Parks & Recreation Office is located along the walking path, at 3000 Parkway Blvd, and the Friends of the Allentown Parks Office is in the stone house directly adjacent to the Rose Garden.
