A makitra is a big clay bowl with a rough surface. With the help of a special (usually wooden) stick with a ball-shaped end, makitra can be used for creaming cake batter, eggs with sugar, buttercream, quark for cheescake or paskha, and poppy seeds for poppy seed-based food.
