Makó Catholic cemetery (Est. 1810s). About the cemetery: there are several cemeteries in Makó according to denomination, which are still used today. According to medieval tradition, the Makó Catholics were buried around the church after the resettlement (around 1699). Today's Szent István Square was larger then, encompassing the beginning of today's School and Pázmány Street; The old one-storey Catholic school and today's church school were built on the territory of the cemetery, and graves were found during the digging of the foundations of the latter. In the Roman Catholic cemetery, the same threefold division can be observed in the burial order as in the life of the city. The crypts – where the graves of the Lonovics, Nyéky or Kristóffy families are located, among others – are surrounded by a zone of switched graves, while the outer plots are made up of free graves. The heroic graves can be found in the northern half of the graveyard. Katolikus temető máshol Kálvária utcai temető. A középkori hagyománynak megfelelően a makói katolikusság az újjátelepülést követően a mai Szent István téri templom körül temetkezett. A tér akkor nagyobb volt, a mai Iskola és Pázmány utca elejét is magába foglalta; a régi földszintes katolikus iskola és a mai egyházi iskola is a temető területére épült. Mivel a templom körüli temető betelt, újat nyitottak az akkori püspöki rezidencia mögött, a mai Petőfi park helyén. Mivel azonban ez a terület az 1810-es telekosztáskor beépült, ezért a Sovány szőlők területén jelölték ki az új temetőt. A római katolikus temetőben a temetkezési rendben ugyan az a hármas tagolódás figyelhető meg, mint a város életében. A kriptákat – ahol többek között a Lonovics-, Nyéky-, vagy Kristóffy-család sírhelyei találhatóak - a váltott sírok övezete veszi körül, míg külső parcellákat az ingyenes sírok alkotják. A hősi sírokat a sírkert északi felében találjuk. A temető keresztjét 1817-ben még fából ácsolták, a kőkeresztet kőből készült korpusszal Selmeczi József makói lakos saját költségén állította 1829-ben.
