English: The paddle steamship Maitland, Passenger Ship; 880 tons; 70.6x8.3x5.9 m.; Built in 1870 by Mcculloch & Co. (UK) for Newcastle & Hunter River Steamship Co. (Australia). Registered at Sydney. On 06 May 1898, the Maitland was on voyage from Sydney with a cargo of general goods, 37 crew and about 30 passengers, when she was lost after running aground off Broken Bay, Maitland Bay. 21 died.[1][2][3]
