MV Derbyshire was a Bridge class bulk carrier built by Swan Hunter and went into service for the Bibby Line in 1976. In 1980 she was lost the South China Seas during typhoon Orchid. All onboard died, including 42 crew members and two of their wives. This memorial was opened on 15th September 2018 by John Prescott, former Deputy Prime Minister, himself a former seaman.
