This building is a pumping station, part of the Mersey Estuary Pollution Alleviation Scheme. Built in 1984, it intercepts sewage outfall which would otherwise flow into the inshore area and deposits it further out to sea. On this site, until New Brighton pier was demolished, was the Golden Goose Amusement Arcade.
