The main Luddenham Public School classroom is a representative example of a pre-war rural school architecture in good condition. It was designed and built by George McRae and R.M. Wells and has been in constant educational use since 1860. The school is part of a group of early buildings on Willmington Road (formerly The Northern Road), including the Progress Hall, Uniting Church and St James Anglican Church (all in the Penrith LGA).
A two-roomed timber weatherboard school, measuring approx. 7x9.5m with a painted corrugated iron roof. The ridge to the gable roof is centered over the main school room, and the roof extends over the smaller room and porch. The schoolroom floor is carpeted over timber boarding, supported by timber joists on brick piers with ant caps. External walls are of 200mm wide painted timber boards ("rusticated" profile), internal walls are of 100mm wide painted timber boarding with a quad mould at the cornice. A brick chimney within the room as been removed above the roof level. Modifications noted during the 1992 heritage study consisted of the removal of the chimney above roof level. There has been minor modifications to the exterior of the site since 1992, including the addition of an outdoor light over the porch entrance.
