English: The Lockwood House, located at 360 Fillmore Street on the east side of Camp Hill in Harpers Ferry, Virginia, was built in 1848 as quarters for the paymaster of the Harpers Ferry Armory. In 1862, during the American Civil War, it was a military hospital called Clayton Hospital, and for three months it served as the headquarters for General Henry Lockwood; it was also used as housing for officers of both sides, depending on who was in control of the area. The house had been renovated in 1858, before the war, and again in 1883, after it has been transferred by President Andrew Johnson to Storer College, a historically black college which operated from 1867 to 1955. The Lockwood House was the college's first primary building. The college added a third floor, which was later removed by the National Park Service during restoration of the house.
