English: The Lava Butte, above the west bank of the Colorado River, at Lava Creek (Mile 65.5), downstream from en:Little Colorado River (Mile 61.2). Lava Butte is formed from an erosion resistant sub-layer of the multi-layered, well bedded en:Cardenas Basalt-(Cardenas Lava), of the en:Unkar Group, (uppermost member, no. 5 of 5). Lava Creek flows north of the Butte at the outfall of Lava Creek with the south-flowing Colorado River. (the Lava Canyon (Chuar) Rapid is adjacent downstream; the en:Nankoweap Formation and Chuar Group are the geologic units above the Unkar Group)
