English: The Hanau District, seated in Hanau, was formed in 1821 as a district of the Electorate of Hesse-Kassel, after its annexation to Prussia Hanau District formed part of the new Kassel Region, was redistricted to the Wiesbaden Region in 1944, and, with the latter's merger in the Darmstadt Region Hanau District became part thereof. In 1974 the Hanau District merged into the new Main-Kinzig District.
