The Bhagavathi temple of Kodungallur, also referred to as the Sree Kurumba Bhagavathy temple, is a historic Chera dynasty era Hindu temples complex dedicated to the goddess (Devi Shakti) tradition. It is pre-11th century, but one that has so many layers of reconstruction over the centuries that it is difficult to date it. The temples complex is particularly notable for its link to Kannagi, a character in the Tamil epic Silappadikaram.
The main shrine of the Bhagavati koil is dedicated to Hindu goddess Bhadrakali. The temples complex is from the Saptamatrika Hindu tradition, with the Chamunda extracted from a matrika panel likely from the 8th-century.
