Kateri Tekakwitha was an Iroquois convert to Roman Catholicism. She was beatified on June 22, 1980 by Pope John Paul II and canonized by Pope Benedict XVI at Saint Peter's Basilica on October 21, 2012. She was born near present day Auriesville, New York.
