The katara (erroneously romanized as "katar" by the British) is a push-dagger unique to south Asia. Originating in southern India, it quickly spread to the entire subcontinent including Sri Lanka. They come in a variety of forms ranging from narrow curved blades in the south to broad straight blades in the north.
