Joseph Silcock (Warrington 1852 - Leeds 1930) (active 1884-1906 or later) was a self-taught portrait painter, landscape artist and still-life artist born in Noggin-by-Croft, Warrington, Cheshire, England. He moved to Leeds, Yorkshire around 1866, with his father who had been in the silk trade. Silcock was by trade a house painter from 11 years old, but was already an amateur artist at that time. He received no training due to poverty. In Leeds, Silcock was employed in a steel works, but continued to paint portraits. By 1906 Silcock was a sign-writer and decorator in Rowland Road, off Dewsbury Road, Leeds. Silcock was a member of West Hunslet Liberal Club, and painted various political portraits for the club. He exhibited works with the Yorkshire Union of Artists.
