Jordan Park dates back to the establishment of Jordan Playgrounds in June 1913. It was established by the Allentown Playgrounds Association which leased the land and turned it over to the city/ By 1916, organized sports programs in basketball and volleyball, along with playground equipment such as swing sets had been established there. In 1917, a band had been organized to play at the park in the summer. Organized swimming was set up in the summer of 1919, primarily in the Jordan Creek which was adjacent to the park, although a pond on the park was deep enough for diving. In 1922, several baseball fields were built at what was called Jordan Park Playgrounds with both girl's and boy's teams participating in 1923 in leagues against teams from Catasauqua, Fullerton, Whitehall Township, Coplay, and other Allentown teams.

It was in may 1933, that a pool was proposed to provide better swimming facilities at Jordan Park. The plan called for the construction of a dam in the Jordan Creek and the erection of a bathhouse and the building of a footbridge. The pool was opened in 1934, and by the summer of 1940, diving boards were added to the pool facilities. A new pool was first planned in 1950 with a brick bathhouse, and a pool made with concrete to comply with Pennsylvania health and sanitation requirements. The new pool, the one in current use today, opened in 1952, and the parking area was paved with asphalt.

In the years since, new facilities have been added that include two tennis courts, three baseball fields, two basketball courts, 1 football field, 1 volleyball court, and 4 handball courts. A skateboard facility was also added.
