John J. Lindauer (1874-1899) was a 23 year old married cigar maker from Brooklyn, New York City. He ran off with a 15 year old girl named Josephine Engel, she was his neighbor. Lindauer murdered the girl then took his own life. In each of their pockets the police found a photo of the other and a letter explaining the situation.
