James Patrick Anderton, usually known as Jim Anderton (born James Patrick Byrne; 21 January 1938 – 7 January 2018), was the leader of the Progressive Party, a New Zealand political party. He served in Parliament from 1984. He served as Deputy Prime Minister from 1999 to 2002 and was the Father of the House, the longest continuously serving member of the House at his retirement. In 2010, Anderton ran for the mayoralty of Christchurch, but lost to incumbent mayor Bob Parker. He retired from Parliament at the 2011 general election.
