English: James Curle (1862–1944) is a Scottish lawyer and archaeologist, doctor honoris causa of the university of Aberdeen, trustee of the National Library of Scotland, royal commissioner on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland (where he takes over from his brother Alexander), member of the Royal Society of Antiquarians of London and of that of Edinburgh, member of the German Archaeological Institute, member of the Royal Company of Archers (1897).
He discovered the Roman fort of Trimontium in Melrose parish, Scottish Borders; and contributed to the typology of terra sigillata (samian ware), defining variants that he listed independently from the classification established by Dragendorff that was followed by Déchelette, Robert Knorr et Η. B. Walters.
