- The flagship store was at the J. L. Hudson Building — covering a block on Woodward Avenue in downtown Detroit. It stood from 1923 until demolished in 1988.
- Founded by Joseph Lowthian Hudson in 1881, who also financed the founding of Hudson Motor Car Company in 1909.
