The community of Island Lake community is located on a group of islands near the north shore of Island Lake (Stevenson, Wass, Hamilton, Boothe, Chapins, RC Mission, Gravel and Lindsays) The community was first established by the Hudson's Bay Company in 1818 and is listed as one of the posts that were occupied at the time of merging with the North West Company.
