The Hyakumantō Darani or One Million Pagodas and Dharani Prayers are the earliest examples of woodblock printing known from Japan. There are small wooden pagodas, each containing a small woodblock scroll printed with a Buddhist text (Hyakumantō Darani), printed from 764 to about 770.
