Humoristické listy (Humorous Papers) was a Czech entertainment magazine, published from 1858 until 1928(?). It contained many humorous stories, jokes and cartoons, but also portraits of notable personalities and political satire that cannot be easily understood without knowing the context. Due to the fact that it was one of the few illustrated magazines throughout the 19th century, it sometimes even published very serious contents - e.g. their articles and images relating to Austro-Prussian war of 1866 or the death of Vítězslav Hálek in 1874 - to keep the population informed. Many articles and images are now in public domain, but determining the status of others may be difficult due to their frequent employment of non-notable illustrators and publishing anonymous work.
