San Antonio Aguas Calientes huipiles. These huipils are hand woven on a back strap loom in two black cotton base panels. These panels are well matched and fully decorated with elaborate supplementary brocade in floral patterns. The unique feature of San Antonio A.C. huipils is the "marcador" decoration, usually in floral and bird patterns. This decoration is double supplementary weft brocade, with the design appearing equally on both sides. This type of weaving is only done in this village. San Antonio A. C. huipils are widely considered the best woven huipils among the Maya of Guatemala and their style influences that of many nearby villages.
