Category:Hotel Ramona (Seattle)
The Hotel Ramona originally known as the Phinney Block, was built at the Northeast corner of 1st Ave and Seneca St in 1889 by influential real estate developer Guy Carleton Phinney, who was also responsible for building the Butler Block and owning the land that later became Woodland Park and the Phinney Ridge neighborhood. Designed by William E. Boone as an office building, construction was begun just before the Great Seattle Fire and was rushed to completion soon after to help house many recently burnt out businesses. It was later converted to residential use and for many years was known as the Hotel Ramona and in its final years as the Plaza Hotel. The hotel closed in 1969 and the building was razed in early 1975. Up until recent redevelopment the lot had been occupied by a small private playground.
