English: Hômongi is a semiformal to formal type of kimono characterised by a continuous, non-repeating pattern that is carefully matched (eba moyô) whereever it crosses a seam. Unlike tomesode, which are always solid above the waist, the hômongi pattern is arranged around the hem, over the left shoulder, and behind the right sleeve. Antique items may have a more total coverage, whereas subdued modern items may be hard to distinguish from tsukesage.
