English: The oval church was built in 1976, and was built to accommodate the growing congregation of the Carlow Cathedral Parish. Askea became a separate parish in 1990. The church was designed by E. Quinn and constructed by D. & J. Carbery. The church's shape was inspired by the Old Testament moving Tent that contained the Ark of the Covenant when the people of Israel wandered the desert during the Exodus. The original tabernacle is a replica of the church. The seats follow the curve of the external walls and slope down to the altar. The stations of the cross were painted directly onto the walls by the artist Willie Early. See John McEvoy, John Duffy: The Churches of Kildare & Leighlin 2000 A.D., ISBN 2-7468-0293-7, p. 14.
