Holy Comforter-Saint Cyprian Parish is a merger of two separate parishes. St. Cyprian parish was an African American parish established in 1893. Its parish buildings were located at the corner of 13th and C Streets, Southeast. A Potomac bluestone Romanesque Revival church building was completed in 1894. Holy Comforter parish was established in 1904 and served a largely Caucasian parish. Its first church building was completed in 1906 and the second in 1939. With demographic changes in the 1960s the parishes merged in 1966 at Holy Comforter.
