English: The timber church of Hiona St Stephen's is one of the oldest surviving buildings in the eastern Bay of Plenty, the history of which reflects the fluctuating relations between Maori and Pakeha in the region.
Built in 1862-1864, and site of the w:Volkner Incident in 1865. Possibly designed by w:Carl Sylvius Völkner. New Zealand Historic Places Trust Register number 142, Category I.
