English: The first Hingham station was built by the South Shore Railroad in 1849. A two-story stucco building, it originally had a clocktower which was removed in 1885. It was replaced with the second station - a series of storefronts with an awning for passengers in the rear - around 1950. Trains blocking grade crossings were a frequent issue; this third station - also a retail strip with no real passenger facilities - opened to the east of downtown around 1952-54. Service on the line ended in 1959; when it resumed in 2007, a tunnel was built to avoid grade crossings and no station was built in downtown Hingham.
