High Street Market, also called the Jersey Market, was the first covered market in Philadelphia. It was first constructed in 1720 along High Street (Market Street) between Front Street and 2nd Street. In 1759, the "market house" or "shed" was extended to 3rd Street. In 1810, the sheds were continued west to 6th Street and then to 8th Street. All of the High Street Market was demolished by 1859.
