English: The sarcophagus of Hercules comes from the ancient city of Perge (today in Turkey) and was carved in the 2nd century in the city of Docimium. Measuring 2.35 meters long by 1.12 meters wide, it represents the twelve labours of Hercules. Two women, one of whom is identified as Tyche, accompany Hercules on the short sides.
Found in Geneva in December 2010 by Swiss customs, it was seized and appraised. After a judicial proceeding, a decision to return it to Turkey was rendered in September 2015 and confirmed on appeal in May 2016. The sarcophagus was exhibited to the public in Geneva from June to September 2017 before its return.
