Afrikaans: Hendrik Jacobus (Hekkie) Schoeman (11 Julie 1840, Pietermaritzburg – 26 Mei 1901, Pretoria) was die seun van voortrekker en ZAR president, kmdt-genl. Stephanus Schoeman, en sy vrou Geertruida Johanna (Gertina) Schutte. Hy was in 1885 vir 'n wyle volksraadslid vir Lichtenburg en lid van die uitvoerende raad, en in 1899/1900 vir 'n wyle bevelvoerder van die Pretoriase en Johannesburgse burgers wat na Colesberg gestuur is. Het op 5 Maart 1900 uit staatsdiens bedank en is na die Slag van Silkaatsnek (11 Julie) gearresteer en was in Barberton verhoorafwagtend. Is in Oktober 1900 weer gearresteer en in Pietersburg ter dood veroordeel. Is telkens deur Engelse vrygelaat maar sterf tuis in Strubenstraat, Pretoria, toe 'n liddietbom afgaan wat hy op slagveld opgetel het. Kruismonument is in 1955 vir hom te Saartjiesnek opgerig.
English: Hendrik Jacobus (Hekkie) Schoeman (11 July 1840, Pietermaritzburg – 26 May 1901, Pretoria) was the son of Voortrekker and ZAR president, Cmdt-Gen. Stephanus Schoeman, and his wife Geertruida Johanna (Gertina) Schutte. During 1885 Hekkie was a member of the volksraad, representing Lichtenburg, and a member of the executive council. In 1899/1900 he was the appointed commander of the Pretoria and Johannesburg citizens sent to the war front at Colesberg. He however resigned from public service on 5 March 1900, was arrested after the Battle of Silkaatsnek (11 July), and was awaiting trial in Barberton. He was arrested again in October 1900 and sentenced to death in Pietersburg. He was repeatedly set free by English forces but died at home in Struben Street, Pretoria, when a liddite shell, taken as souvenir from a battlefield, exploded. In 1955 his relatives erected the Cross monument in his honour at Saartjiesnek.
