Handbuch der Psychiatrie was a multi-volume encyclopedia designed in about 1910/11, which in 26 volumes that were released between 1911 and 1929 covered all major aspects of psychiatry at the time of the 1910s to late 1920s.

Due to an increase in relevance for certain disciplines the orginally planned number of volumes was expanded to 26 in the 1920s giving place to newly emerged disciplines like psychopathic personalities, hereditary aspects of mental diseases, sexual pathology.

The Handbook of Psychiatry was supervised by Gustav Aschaffenburg and published by Franz Deuticke publishers in Leipzig and Vienna.

Two of the most important reference works contained in this handbook are Eugen Bleuler's ground-breaking differentiation of Dementia praecox or the group of schizophenias or Erwin Stransky's work on bipolar disorders Das manisch-depressive Irresein, both published in 1911
