Built in 1906, this three-story Colonial Revival-style flatiron apartment building located at 222 North Hamilton Street in Madison, Wisconsin, was designed by J. O. Gordon and Son and remains in use as an apartment building. (See the Property Record online.)
The building is clad in red brick with a low-slope roof enclosed by a parapet, six-over-one and four-over-one double-hung windows, stone sills and headers, brick quoins, stone cornices at the top and bottom of the third floor, a recessed entrance from Hamilton Street with a stone surround featuring an architrave engraved with the words “The Hamilton” and an arched entrance, stone trim at the corners, a metal fire escape mounted on the Johnson Street facade, and a chamfered corner at the intersection of the building’s two principal facades.
