English: Magyaróvár Fort and its fortification. History: dated back to the Roman Empire's time. In the 2nd century A.D a military encampment - the station of the 14th wat?-strenghted legion, by the name Ad Flexum had stood on same area. But after it must have been destroyed for in 1096 in the time of the first Crusade it was a locality fortified improvisedly only. After the Tatar Devastation abuot in 1260 Conrad of Győr clan had the fortress built it was mentioned in first by our contemporary chapters in this time. On the end of the 13th century Conrad of Óvar having been disloyal lost the fortress which became a regal property. In the second half of the 15th century it was already the Counts of Szentgyörgy and Bazin tenure. They had it rebuilt. The present castle gate has originated with that time. You cen see the star formed crest shield of theirs on vaulting. Matthias of Hunyad the later king as the captive of King Ladislaus the V. was locked in supposedly here for some time in 1457. In the beginning of the 16th century th fortress got into th Queen's possesion. After the Mohács Disaster (1526) the widowed Queen Mary was living here for two years. In 1535 th Habsburg dynasty took possesion of the tenure but it was mortgaged frequently. About 1530 the fortress was rebuilt by Gian Maria del Napoli which was told by a description from 1543. In all likelihood map made in 1632 represented this rebuilding. According to it the ground plan of the fortress aggrees with the present one but with one storey only. In 1818, among the first ones in Europe, Prince Albert of Saxony, Duke of Teschen, the son-in-law Queen Maria Theresa of the House of Habsburg, founded an agricultural type high level edcational institution in the fort. Since 2016 this is the campus of Faculty of Agricultural and Food Science of Széchenyi István University - Located in Magyaróvár neighborhood, Mosonmagyaróvár, Győr-Moson-Sopron County, Hungary.
