The Grey Dogs tidal race is a disturbance of standing waves in the strait between Lunga and Scarba caused by the diurnal tidal race there, which is of high velocity. It has nothing to do with the nearby Garvellachs. An alternative name is Little Corryvreckan. The nature of the "dogs" remains unclear.
