Grassland in 7th Brigade Park, Chermside, is of human creation (anthropogenic). It was created over approximately a century (19th - 20th) for grazing, military purposes and sport, replacing the forest and woodland that originally covered the district. The grassland is maintained by regular mowing, without which it would slowly revert to forest. The flora is a mix or native and exotic grasses, forbs and herbs, all of which are adapted to frequent mowing and slashing.
