Grande Poste

English: The Mail Hall was built during the 1930's years, in the Art Deco style by architects of Bayonne, J. Godefroy and Soupre Brothers. The simple juxtaposition of two rectangular buildings corresponded to the functions assigned to them: The low building received the public with activities organized along a counters distributed along a bank that bounded the space in which was sorted the mail on the ground floor of the hight building. Telephone (and Telegraph) were confined in a small room on the left part of the hall with nothing less than four cabins! Auto-switches were in stages, with at the top administrative offices.

La simple yuxtaposición de dos edificios rectangulares corresponden a las funciónes que se les asignó : El edificio bajo recibio el público en las actividades organizadas en contadores distribuidos a lo largo de un grand banco que también delimitaba el espacio donde ordenaba el correo en la planta baja del grande edificio. Teléfono (y Telégrafo) estaban confinados en una pequeña habitación a la izquierda con nada menos que cuatro cabinas! Auto-conmutadores se encontraban en los pisos, con las oficinas administrativas por lo alto
Français : L' Hôtel des poste a été construit à l'époque 1930, dans le Style Art Déco par architectes Bayonnais J. Godefroy et Soupre Frères. La simple juxtaposition de deux bâtiments parallélépipédiques correspondait aux fonctions qui leur étaient dévolues : Le bâtiment bas recevait le public avec les activités de poste organisées autour de guichets répartis le long d'une longue banque qui délimitait aussi l'espace où se triait le courrier au rez-de chaussée du bâtiment haut. Le téléphone (et le télégraphe) étaient cantonné dans une petite pièce à gauche du hall avec rien moins que quatre cabines ! Les auto-commutateurs se trouvaient dans les étages, avec tout en haut les bureaux administratifs.
