Category:Gothic Tavern, Allentown, Pennsylvania
The Gothic Tavern had a unique storefront on Hamilton Street. It opened in March 1934 by brothers Adam and Henry Bruni after a substantial remodeling that gave it the style of an old English drinking establishment and was there for about 16 years.
Within its stained glass windows and somber architectural lines were the wonderful fragrance of sauces and spice. It also offered various imported and domestic wines with its offerings of Italian and American cuisine. The Taproom did have two notable brushes with the law. One involved a Nov 1946 game of Russian Roulette that went bad, and the other involved it being a drinking spot by a group of men in 1936, one of whom would later end up murdered.
The Bruni brothers were natives of Rome, Italy and immigrated to Allentown in the early years of the 20th century, first opening a shoe making business. Adam passed away in September 1937. The restaurant closed in early 1946. Henry later moved to Emmaus where he ran Henry's Tavern and Restaurant which opened in September 1948. He died in July 1964.
The building where the Gothic Tavern was housed was torn down and replaced by the GAC building in the 1960s
