English: Giovan Battista Sessa, typographer and publisher of Venice, originally from Sessa; active in 1489-1505. Published with his son Melchiorre Sessa, active in Venice in 1505-1562. Melchiorre Sessa printed by himself from 1506 to 1516, then he went into partnership with Pietro Ravani, and from 1526 he again worked alone. He married Veronica Barone and had 6 children: Giovanni Battista (II), Giovanni Bernardo, Melchiorre (Jr.), Bernardino, Isabetta, and Faustina. As editor he used many prints, including Nicolini da Sabbio, Giglio, Bernardino Bindoni, and Francesco Rampazetto. Possibly, he has used both the cat's and the ship's family branding signs. His printing workshop was in San Giuliano, near the San Lio. The signature Melchiorre Sessa from 1555 to 1565 could refer to both the father and son of the same name.
