The German theatre and orchestra landscape comprises an extraordinary diversity of artistic forms of expression such as acting, opera, operetta, musical, dance, concerts, puppet theatre, performances and much more. This diversity has its origin in the 17th and 18th century, when Germany consisted of a great quantity of small sovereign states that all created own state- as well as private-run theatres and orchestras. They significantly contribute to cultural education and are important institutions to critically deal with social, cultural, political and economic issues of current times.
