English: The Gazette of the United States was founded by John Fenno in New York City in 1789. The publication moved to Philadelphia, following the federal government, in 1791. The paper changed its names several times beginning in 1794, when it became the Gazette of the United States and Daily Evening Advertiser (June 12, 1794). It became the Gazette of the United States on July 1, 1795; the Gazette of the United States, & Philadelphia Daily Advertiser on July 1, 1796; and the Gazette of the United States, & Daily Advertiser on June 28, 1800. On November 2, 1801, the paper once again took its earlier title of the Gazette of the United States. It was renamed one last time, after February 20, 1804, as the United States' Gazette, before it finally ceased operations on March 7, 1818 and merged with the True American.
