NFC's description of the apple is: "Believed to have come from Wigtown, Galloway, Scotland. It was first brought to notice in 1871 but is thought to be much older. Received First Class Certificate from the Royal Horticultural Society in 1871. Fruits have firm, crisp, juicy flesh with a subacid flavour. Cooks well."
