Near the modern Gülpinar a Chalcolithic settlement dating to between 5300-4300 BC was uncovered. It had a well-organized architecture. Life was based on animal husbandry, fishing, hunting and gathering of mussels and oysters. Its pottery is of high xcraftsmanship and it the first copper tools in the region were used here. Cheese pots and strainers for dairy processing were found.
