The Free Theatre Munich (FTM) was founded in Munich in 1970 by George Froscher (1927-2015) and Kurt Bildstein (born 1943). Since the death of Froscher in 2015, Bildstein has been the sole head of the FTM. With the aim of distancing itself from traditional authorities of spoken theater, the group gave itself the name of the "Free Theatre".
